I had to strip my computer and reinstall everything. In doing so I lost my previous settings, which were awesome. They displayed something like:

"Artist - Title [Album (if available), Year (if available)] (Length)"

It worked before, but I'm not sure how I would get it to do it again. This is immaterial, however as now no matter what I change the settings all I'm getting is:

"Artist - Title [Album]."

What am I doing wrong? I really like this plug-in and would like very much if it would do what I ask it to again. I am working with Vista, but despite having tried running all elements of the programme (including Media Monkey, which I am trying to make it work with) in Administrator mode, it is still the same story.

Best,
Eiron.

What preset do you modify and where do you pass your settings? Can you verify that plugin.ini is updated with your settings?

The plugin.ini file in the Plugin folder is being updated. I can manually change the settings in there too. I have the latest versions of both the Winamp plugin and the Configurator. I am using the Configurator to change the settings, but as I said, they do not seem to be being implemented.

I am modifying the alternative settings, but I did try changing the basic ones too to no effect.

EDIT1: I have tried using the current release of Windows Live Messenger and the new beta. Both suffer the same problem. Previously, prior to my wanton improvements to my system that required a complete upheavel of its contents, both worked fine.

EDIT2: This is a Vista system, if that helps any. But it was running Vista before and I had no problems.

EDIT3: Testing the clipboard functions reveals that none of the settings are working, so it has nothing to do with WLM itself, it would appear.

Are you sure that you modify the correct plugin.ini file for the player which is actually running, not for some other player installation which is not active?

Is there any way to find out simply and easily? The plugin.ini is the one in the MediaMonkey\Plugin folder. Obviously it runs through the gen_irc.dll. Can I see anywhere which file it is routing through?

EDIT: I've searched my computer and the only plugin.ini settings I have are in the MediaMonkey folder and one copy I made. Oddly my original settings (which I thought I had previously backed up) were not stored - this could be because it wasn't using these settings in the first place, but I don't understand which settings it would be using otherwise unless they are in some hidden folder that I didn't check.

No idea, you have to find out yourself what's wrong. Clipboard should use the settings from AMIP for sure, but MSN can take info from some players directly and override AMIP. This has been discussed, search the forums.

When AMIP is off it doesn't display anything, so it is not taking the information from anywhere else. AMIP seems to be getting its settings from someplace unknown. I can't fathom where it might be dragging its information from if not the plugin.ini file.

EDIT: It is definitely using settings from the AMIP Configurator, but only its default settings. I can change them to anything without effect. The plugin.ini file is being changed each time, but these settings are not the ones being used. Is there anywhere I ought to be looking to see where it's taking these default settings from or why it's ignoring the ones that I'm setting?

EDIT2: I feel I should add that I am running Configurator as Administrator each and every time. The plugin.ini file is being altered.

Maybe AMIP has no access to plugin.ini file due to some permissions issue? The defaults are built-in, so if plugin.ini cannot be read, the defaults are used.

Try running your player as administrator or change file permissions.

I have tried running MediaMonkey as administrator, running AMIP configurator as administrator, changing the location of the plugin.ini file. I shall try again tomorrow, running all the installers and everything else as administrator and let you know what comes about. Thank you for your help so far.

Right, it took me a while, due to computer problems either end of a holiday, but I have formatted my computer. I edited the AMIP configuration before putting the DLLs and so on into MediaMonkey. Interestingly, it picked up the changes I made prior to installation. But these are wrong, so I go to change them, but no changes made subsequent to the full installation work. Furthermore, removing the installation from the MediaMonkey folder and reinstalling also doesn't work (complete uninstall - removing all apparantly MM-related folders in the Application Data folders too).

Where does this program store its initial set-up? It must go somewhere.

EDIT: While we're at it, here's what I'm trying to implement. Might as well find out where I'm going wrong - I have implemented the following:
QUOTE
Now Playing: %name %?4<[%4~%?5<, %5] |] >|%?5<[%5] |>(%min:%sec)$if($next(%name),$next( \|\| Next song: %name),)

The idea is for it to look something like:
QUOTE
Now Playing: Artist - Title [Album, Year] (Length) || Next song: Artist2 - Title2

Have I gone crazy wrong somewhere in that mess?

EDIT2: Alternative could be this:
QUOTE
%name $if(%4,[%4$if(%5,\, %5] ,] ),$if(%5,[%5] ,)(%min:%sec)$if($next(%name),$next( || Next song: %name),)

I want to be sure this will work, as it appears unless somebody can work out why it should be the case and tell me how to kill the phantom configuration, I will have to format my computer again before being stuck with the next one.

See the attached file, unpack, run cmd.exe, from the console window run:

CODE
getsonginfo.exe %configfile

This will print the location of the .ini file used by AMIP.
If this file doesn't exist, then you have a permissions issue and AMIP/MM is not able to create it (and therefore the hardcoded defaults are used).

How do I prevent the "Error connecting to AMIP server" message?

Probably you don't have AMIP installed at all. Try installing again, run the player. Install SysInternals Process Explorer, select your player process, press:
Ctrl+L to open lower pane in Process Explorer
Ctrl+D to switch to the DLLs view

Verify that gen_irc.dll is in the list of the loaded DLLs for the player process (Media Monkey in your case).

If it's not there, then AMIP is not installed.

Okay. Got it working. It seems adamant that it is using the plugin.ini file, though the configuration there is the edited one. Still, it seems to be using a previous version of that file - the one that was in place when it was installed for the first time. No number of deletions and reinstallations seems able to shift the phantom.

(The second configuration above; does that look like it will do the job I want it to do?)

Delete plugin.ini to switch to defaults or edit it via Configurator or manually to use the desired settings. AMIP is always using the actual version of the configuration file.

Deleted. It is still using for initial settings, pre-installation. Say, for instance, I accidentally installed version 0.63 first, before uninstalling to upgrade to 0.64. Could that be causing problems? Running the getsonginfo.exe prompt indicates that it is now using a file that does not exist, the same plugin.ini location as before. How can I completely clean the installation without taking the drastic measure of formatting my computer again in order to try setting it right?

If songinfo says that AMIP is using the file which doesn't exist, it means that AMIP is using the defaults which it can't save to the file because of the permissions issue. You must run Media Monkey as administrator. If you are using AMIP Configurator to change your settings, you must also run it as administrator.

Ensure that AMIP Configurator and AMIP are using the same existing plugin.ini file (About | Config path in the AMIP Configuraor and songinfo %configfile as described above).

I've provided all the information one may need to investigate and fix the problem, you need to switch on your brain and figure it out. Try reading the post again if you don't understand something. Topic is closed.
