Brief intro to (hopefully) hold back some of the flames I've seen other beginners receive:
1) I downloaded AMIP and its configurator in order to display more than just the radio station's name (the song's name as displayed in iTunes when a station is playing), in WLM. If the software doesn't allow that option, then rather than beating me over the head for my ignorance, simply tell me that it's not possible to do that. 2) I am not posting here out of laziness, but out of desperation. I took one look at " $trunc(%name,100)%?4< [$trunc(%4,100)]|> " in the configurator, and began thinking that perhaps I was a little too adventurous by downloading AMIP. I am relatively computer savvy, but that code is intimidating. I checked the http://amip.tools-for.net/wiki/start/ page, as well as http://amip.tools-for.net/wiki/manual/configurator and I'm afraid I could not find any obvious instructions as to what that code means, or how to tweak that code to configure the software. So, with all of the above in mind, 1) is there a page with -idiot proof- instructions on how to use the configurator? 2) is it possible to show the name of the song playing on the radio in iTunes, as opposed to the station's name? Thanks for the help, and play nice. I am not deliberately trying to piss anyone off. Alex |

1. Help for AMIP preset format, functions and variables is available at:
http://amip.tools-for.net/wiki/manual/amip . 2. Depends on how iTunes treats it. AMIP for iTunes is able to get the %1-%7 tags directly from iTunes. So if it provides such information for radio stations, try using %1 or %2 instead of the %name. |

Serge I want to say a heartfelt 'thank you'. The page you pointed me to was a tremendous help, and now I've got it to work.
So should a new AMIP user wish to know if it is possible to display the song title instead of the station name in Windows Live Messenger when listening to iTunes, the answer is yes. All you need to do is replace %name with %s. This software has made my day. |
