Hi, i'm ctrlaltca from the KVIrc team.
We're about to release the new KVIrc4 version (we're in rc1 now), and we'd like to include amip support with the new release.
Serge Baranov kindly wrote the amip support for our mediaplayer module, but this needs two files (ac.dll and ac.ini) to work.
We'd like to distribute these two files included in the kvirc bundle, so that users won't need anymore to follow the steps described at http://amip.tools-for.net/wiki/tutorials/kvirc before installing amip.
I'm asking for the permission to include these 2 files in the kvirc bundle and the kind of distribution license/copyright these files are subjected to.

Sorry for the delay with the reply, I've missed this question somehow.

Sure, you can include these files in the distribution, however I'm not sure about under which license. AMIP SDK is closed source at the moment.

Which license will be better for you?

KVIrc4 will be a licensed under "gpl2 or later". Ac.dll is an external library and we don't link to it at compilation time; instead, the library is just loaded at runtime if present.
So GPL doesn't force ac.dll to be of any special license.
Any license that permits us (and our users) the copy and distribution of that file in bundle with the kvirc package will suffice.
I give you an example, taken from ultravnc (http://forum.ultravnc.info/viewtopic.php?p=58368) and adapted to our case:
CODE

1. GRANT OF LICENSE:

Serge Baranov and the Amip Team hereby grants The KVIrc development Team -non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual license to distribute, use the software product "Amip KVIrc plugin" (ac.dll) in binary form for their "KVIrc" irc client software. The KVIrc development Team hereby grants the end-user the right to use and distribute the software product "Amip KVIrc plugin" (ac.dll) with "KVIrc" irc client.

2. LIMITED WARRANTY

NO WARRANTY. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, We expressly disclaims any warranty for the SOFTWARE PRODUCT "Amip KVIrc plugin" (ac.dll). The SOFTWARE PRODUCT "Amip KVIrc plugin" (ac.dll) and any related configuration files are provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, either express or implied, including, without limitation, the implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.
NO LIABILITY FOR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall we be liable for any damages whatsoever (including, without limitation, damages for loss of business profit, business interruption, loss of business information, or any other pecuniary loss) arising out of the use of, or inability to use, this product.

Of course this is just my attempt to provide an example license, modify it until it fits your needs smile.gif
